libraryThe downtown area blends into Rogers Avenue, which is the main artery of this zip code.  Branching off Rogers is Free Ferry Road.  So named because it ended at the river and was the site of yes… a “free” ferry across!  Beautiful, gracious old homes are located along this street.  A true source of Fort Smith pride.

Marking the north border of this zip code is Rogers Avenue, the city’s main thoroughfare.  Addresses along this route offer a variety of retail stores and shopping centers, grocery stores, medical clinics and professional offices and services.  The second major medical center, St. Edward Mercy  is located at the corner of Rogers and 74th.

Contributing to the grace of this area is Hardscrabble Country Club, established in the early 1920’s and recognized today as one the state’s Top Ten golf courses.

airportIntegrating new with old, this section of the city provides established public and private schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade, an airport that is only a few minutes’ drive and a central location which can lead to the newer shopping areas and mall or to the historic downtown area, offering unique dining and shopping experiences on the city’s beloved Garrison Avenue.

Eastgate, an area in the east central section of Fort Smith, is close to St. Edward’s Medical Center and Hospital and encompassing the campuses of Fort Smith Public School’s Euper Lane Elementary and kindergarten through ninth grade private school, The First Lutheran School. This newer development attracts those seeking comfort and security, ease and quality design. Many of the properties in this hilly terrain offer a river view, a southern exposure to the mountains of Oklahoma or a panorama of one of the city’s most popular parks and fishing holes, Carol Ann Cross Memorial Park. This recreational facility is presently under a reconstruction, soon to be a stocked lake with fishing access and a walking path surrounding its circumference.

The highest elevation of the Fort Smith area is known as “Skyline Estates,” a residential neighborhood first established in the 1970’s.  Today, many of the original homes still command acreages and pastures. Constant breezes and outdoor lifestyles are major attractions to the residential life of this area of the city.  Deer and other wildlife remain fixtures of the terrain here- they, like their human counterparts who live here, enjoy privacy and safety. A portion of this hillside neighborhood, nestled into the side of the spiraling Moody Road, is a gated community of enclaved homes, known as Oak Hollow.

Ben Geren Regional Park, the city’s largest multipurpose facility, complete with tennis, soccer, 18 hole golf course, walking and biking trails, miniature golf, ball fields, picnic areas and mowed grassland.

Fort Smith’s east side of town is a haven for those who seek the best of an Arkansas landscape.  Surrounded by the banks of the Arkansas River and its backwaters, Massard Creek and Little Massard Creek, many of the homes in this wooded area open up to water and tranquility.  Surprisingly convenient to the daily needs in a busy life, Village Harbor, as it is known to the locals, offers both a gentle lifestyle and a vigorous list of activities. Boating and fishing, walking trails, shopping and dining choices are within the neighborhood boundaries.

The Goldtrap Boys Club and state-acclaimed public schools Woods Elementary and Chaffin Junior High are within walking distance for many of the residents who choose this side of town, as is the Village Harbor Club, a property association-owned facility   providing family-oriented, recreational pursuits including swimming and tennis picnic areas and meeting rooms. The Village Harbor Marina allows for boat owners to maintain convenient docking and storage, with the Arkansas River just past the sheltered cove. A popular pastime for many of the homeowners in this neighborhood is a river excursion, whether it is a fishing or sightseeing venture, just out their backdoor.
